ऊष्मप्रवैगिकी का प्रथम सिद्धांत (First law of Thermodynamics)
१. ऊष्मप्रवैगिकी के प्रथम सिद्धांत के अनुसार ऊर्जा का एक रूप से दूसरे रूप मे रुपांतरण ही संभव है, विनाश नहीं।
२. ऊष्मप्रवैगिकी के प्रथम सिद्धांत के अनुसार किसी निकाय (क) को ताप के रूप मे दी गई ऊर्जा मे से उस निकाय द्वारा करे गए कार्य रूपी ऊर्जा को घटाने पर जो शेष ऊर्जा बचती है वह उस निकाय की आंतरिक ऊर्जा मे हुई बढ़ोतरी के बराबर होती है।
(क) निकाय -- एक समस्या विशेष के समाधान के लिये जिस एक निश्चित मात्रा के द्रव्य या जिस एक निश्चित सीमित स्थान पर ध्यान केन्द्रित किया जाता है उसे, यहां पर, निकाय कहा गया है।
